This Privacy Policy explains how Sound dB (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use our iOS sound level meter. Apple App Store reviewers and users may rely on this page as the official public policy.
1. Who we are
Sound dB is a smart acoustic sound level meter for iOS. It measures ambient sound pressure levels (decibels) on your device, can optionally record live audio, and can attach location to a saved session so you can remember where a measurement was taken.

2. Information the App uses
Sound dB is designed to keep your acoustic data on your iPhone or iPad. We do not operate a user account system and we do not run our own cloud database for measurements or recordings.
3. Microphone and live audio
The App requests microphone access to compute sound pressure levels in real time. You may also choose to record live ambient sound during a measurement session. Audio is processed on your device. Optional recordings are saved only in the App’s local storage for your own playback and are not uploaded to our servers. A recording leaves the device only if you share it yourself (for example through the iOS share sheet or email).
4. Location data
If you grant location permission, Sound dB may read your GPS location while the App is actively monitoring. Coordinates are attached locally to the saved session so you can open Apple Maps or Google Maps later. Location is used only for that purpose. It is not sent to our servers. It leaves the device only if you share a session report.
5. Local measurement logs
Saved sessions (minimum, average, and maximum decibel values, date, optional location, and optional recording filename) are stored on-device using Apple’s local storage (SwiftData) and the App sandbox. You can delete saved history from within the App. Uninstalling the App removes this local data.
6. Advertising
Sound dB displays banner advertisements using Google AdMob. AdMob is a third-party advertising service operated by Google. To serve and measure ads, Google and its advertising partners may collect or receive information such as:
- Device and advertising identifiers
- IP address and general device or network information
- Ad interaction and performance data
We do not send your microphone audio, live recordings, or saved location coordinates to AdMob. Advertising data is handled by Google under Google’s own policies. You can limit ad tracking in iOS Settings (Privacy & Security → Tracking, and Apple’s Personalized Ads settings). Learn more at Google Privacy Policy and AdMob Help.
7. What we do not do
- We do not create user accounts or collect your name, email, or password inside the App.
- We do not upload sound measurements or recordings to a Sound dB server.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your audio or location for advertising targeting.
8. Sharing
We share information only in these cases:
- You choose to share. You can share a session, map link, or recording using iOS share options.
- Advertising partners. Google AdMob and its partners process advertising-related data as described above.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users, the App, or others.
9. Your choices
- You can deny microphone, location, or tracking permission in iOS Settings. Some features will not work without the related permission.
- Live recording is optional and starts only when you turn it on.
- You can delete saved sessions and recordings from History in the App.
- You can remove all App data by deleting the App.
10. Children
Sound dB is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
11. Security
Measurement data and optional recordings remain in the iOS app sandbox on your device. No security practice is perfect. Please keep your device locked and updated. If you share a recording or report, the recipient will be able to see what you send.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App or our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
